GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Gesher Human Services Career Counselor will provide short term solution focused counseling to individuals that are looking to explore career and/or educational opportunities. They will also assist individuals in creating a career development plan by administering a variety of assessments related to skills, values, and personality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Master’s degree required in counseling, social work or related fields such as psychology, rehabilitation counseling, etc.

Other:

  • Licensed or Limited License as an LMSW, LPC or have a related equivalent certification preferred.
  • One to three years related experience working with a wide range of individuals including those with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience conducting career and personality assessments, group counseling and job placement preferred.
  • Certification in Resume Writing required within 6 months of hire.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with clients, public and staff.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and web-based databases. 
  • Composition and time management skills sufficient to prepare required case notes and correspondence as well as the ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently are needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Complete an initial assessment for each client assigned and maintain ongoing assessment of needs.
  • Establish and maintain a counseling relationship with the client and develop and implement a counseling plan.
  • Achieve a Career Development Plan (CDP) rate that is consistent with current Agency goals.
  • Conduct group counseling sessions and workshops, as assigned.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments.
  • Assist client to interpret and integrate career information to develop a long term and short-term plan.
  • Obtain necessary services for clients by referring and coordinating with other disciplines within the agency or community.
  • Assist clients with job seeking skills, (i.e. resume preparation, interviewing skills, etc.) and in conducting a job search.
  • Assist clients to effectively adjust to the work environment.
  • Maintain case records, correspondence and agency reporting requirements including entering case notes and service status into electronic record system.
  • Participate in planning, executing and staffing departmental programming.
  • Serve on Agency committee(s) as appointed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Physical requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting in required.
