Established in 1980, Assets, Inc. is the 64th largest private employer is the State of Alaska, with a workforce of over 270 employees, 41.97% of whom are individuals with disabilities. Each member contributes to the local economy and plays a valued role in the community.
Four years after Assets opened its doors, a contract was signed providing janitorial services at the Anchorage Airport. This was a pivotal moment in the history of the organization as it was the first of many service contracts established between Assets and various entities. Today, these contracts provide a variety of employment options for over 200 employees, both disabled and non-disabled, in such environments as the Anchorage Area Commissary, Providence Hospital, and the Alaska State Court House System. Employees of Assets wash every dish at Providence Hospital, stock every shelf at the commissary and clean every square inch of the Courthouse and Federal Buildings!
Our Supported Living Services began in 1984, followed by Employment Services in 1986. Supported Living Services refers to any combination of skill building, coaching and resource coordination to assist individuals to live in their own homes. Supported Employment assists individuals to obtain and retain employment within local businesses. Assets currently partners with over forty local employers in hiring the right person to ensure job satisfaction for both the employee and employer.

Project Supervisor: Print Services Bindery Support
In accordance with Assets, Inc. core values and mission, the Project Supervisor of Print Services Bindery Support is responsible for supervising and supporting the Bindery Helpers in the Print Shop. This position provides daily instruction, coaching, and work coordination while fostering a safe, productive, and inclusive work environment. The Print Services Bindery Support Supervisor works closely with the Print Services Manager to ensure supported employees are successfully integrated into production activities that match their abilities while contributing to the operational goals of the department.
This position ensures that assigned customer projects are accurately finished, packaged, sorted, and prepped for delivery while maintaining production schedules, quality standards, safety practices, and efficient workflow.
This position may require de-escalating verbally or physically aggressive individuals according to identified procedures and individual client protocols and provides direct labor according to company safety rules and established parameters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to and demonstrates Assets, Inc. core values, mission, policies, procedures and compliance plan in the performance of all aspects of this position.
- Monitors service delivery and ensures that all daily and periodic tasks are completed as scheduled and according to specified quality standards.
- Provides daily instruction and coaching.
- Assists employees in learning new vocational skills, encouraging personal and professional growth.
- Assists Project Manager with ordering/purchasing supplies. Monitors the supply, equipment, and inventory use at the site.
- Provides supervision, guidance and training to frontline workers according to the organization’s policies, identified procedures and applicable laws.
- Assists the Project Manager with the coordination of the Supported Employment program . This includes, but is not limited to:
- Participates in individual support plan meetings, implements plans and documents individual's training progress.
- Provides assistance to contract site team in case management, data collection and Individual Support Treatment Plan (ISPT) development.
- Ensures site documentation, practices and support services comply with Medicaid standards and adhere to individual support plans (ISP).
- Communicates with job coaches, case managers and guardians/care providers.
- Works with and provides support to individuals with mental illness or intellectual developmental disabilities.
- Ensures transportation for employees as required.
- Performs direct labor (including hands-on cleaning and janitorial duties) according to company safety rules & established parameters in the Bindery area.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all necessary paperwork required by the department or Assets, Inc. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Quality Control Reports
- Task Completion Reports
- Supply Inventory
- Service Notes
- Incident Reports and Critical Incident Reports
- Payroll/Time Sheets and Attendance for all site employees
- Performance appraisals
- Mileage Forms
- Supervisory Files
- HR Forms and Documentation
- Increases safety awareness and actively promotes safety at the print shop site. Provides safety training and hazardous chemical communications training to site employees. Ensures site safety rules are followed at all times and reports safety hazards or violations immediately.
- Maintains regular, consistent and open communications with the Project Manager about the well-being of the print shop, site challenges or concerns, suggestions, customer complaints, employee issues, etc.
- Develops and maintains pro-active and assistive relationships with the customer, Assets management, site employees and served individuals and their family members.
- Completes all trainings required for this position. Actively participates in required site and company meetings.
- May be required to work at multiple designated work sites or may be reassigned as needed to other contract work sites.
- Works a fixed schedule, Monday through Friday, minus holidays.
- Assists in or individually de-escalates verbally or physically aggressive individuals according to identified procedures and individual client protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides supervision, mentoring and vocational training to Bindery Helpers employed at the Print Shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Ensures a safe, secure and comfortable work environment for employees. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting Project Manager with interviewing and hiring
- Providing orientation/on-the-job training to new staff and monitoring on-going individual and team training needs
- Planning, assigning, and directing work. Ensuring employees remain on task.
- Assisting the Project Manager with team meeting facilitation
- Conducting time studies/performance appraisals and agreements
- Appraising performance
- Assisting Project Manager in rewarding and disciplining employees
- Addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Employee mentoring and vocational skill development.
- Assisting with inventory control, problem solving, and quality assurance on customer products.
- Communicate employee progress to the Project Manager.
- Encourage confidence and reinforce quality work habits
Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- One (1) year of related experience and/or training required.
- Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Alaska driver's license and insured vehicle required. Must be able to pass a criminal background check under the state regulations. Proof of driver’s license, vehicle insurance and educational credentials must be presented at time of hire.
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Previous supervisory experience and/or training strongly preferred.
- Previous working experience and specific technical knowledge related to the Print Service Industry is preferred, but not necessary.
- Possess a knowledge of skills and techniques used in print shop bindery operations.
- Knowledge of USPS postal regulations is preferred, but not necessary.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- Experience coordinating multiple production deadlines.
- Proficiency working with computers and document control procedures.
- Good written, organizational, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work in a dynamic team environment.
- Able to maintain client confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the company, site and contract.
- Ability to relate to and coordinate diverse groups of people.
