HVAC Technician - Fort Rucker


MISSION:

The mission of BAC Enterprises is to provide persons with disabilities innovative services and opportunities to achieve personal success.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, installs, inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and services commercial and industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems and related equipment. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facility HVAC systems in accordance with contract requirements, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains air handlers, package units, split systems, heat pumps, exhaust fans, and associated equipment.
  • Performs refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak detection in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Tests electrical components including motors, compressors, contactors, relays, capacitors, transformers, and sensors.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Maintains accurate work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
  • Responds to emergency service calls and equipment failures.
  • Uses HVAC diagnostic equipment, gauges, recovery machines, vacuum pumps, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Maintains compliance with OSHA, EPA, company safety policies, and applicable mechanical and electrical codes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no formal supervisory responsibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of commercial or industrial HVAC/R maintenance experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • R-410A Safety Certification required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Share Point.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access credentials and security clearances for Fort Rucker, or other assigned government installations.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record that meets BAC MVR requirements.
  • Must possess an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training card or have the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment from an OSHA authorized provider.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of commercial HVAC/R systems, refrigeration principles, and associated mechanical and electrical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Ability to safely use HVAC hand tools, power tools, gauges, meters, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and provide professional customer service.
  • Ability to complete work orders, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

  • Ability to travel to various facilities.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS:

  • EPA Section 608 Certification required.
  • R-410A Safety Certification required.

TRAVEL:

No overnight or out-of-area travel is expected for this position. Local movement within local sites will be required to support inspections, meetings, incident response and contract operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must be able to perform the essential physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, for extended periods of time. Duties may include:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials and equipment.
  • Maneuvering in, around, under, and near HVAC equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and accessing rooftop equipment as required.
  • Working in mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, rooftops, and other restricted or elevated areas.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving tools, materials, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Performing repetitive physical tasks associated with HVAC installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

These physical requirements may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including offices, shops, warehouses, mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, and customer work locations. Local travel between work sites may be required.

Employees may be exposed to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, electrical hazards, moving equipment, refrigerants, and other conditions associated with HVAC maintenance and repair.

Employees are required to wear and properly use all designated personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all applicable OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, company safety policies, and established procedures.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires manual dexterity, visual acuity, color differentiation, concentration, and the ability to safely operate HVAC tools, gauges, meters, testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
