Classification Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant
experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an
equivalent rate for the required experience. 

Job Description:  

The full-time Maintenance Generalist II will support the
demands of the Institute’s maintenance operations and perform services and
repairs which include welding, plumbing, painting, carpentry and as a
locksmith. The position is considered essential and must be available during
emergencies, such as hurricanes. 

  

Responsibilities and Duties:  

  

General Maintenance Operations: Builds and/or installs
shelves, cabinets, lab tops, doors and desk keyboard trays; hangs signs,
pictures and boards; repairs door hinges, knobs and closures. 

Assist with event setup and general repairs. 

  

Replaces ballasts, electrical outlets, light switches and
light bulbs; hangs light fixtures; repairs or replaces frayed power cords and
plugs. 

  

Inspects sinks, drinking fountains, urinals, toilets,
unclogs drains, install pipes, performs light repairs of sinks and garbage
disposals. 

  

Replaces floor and ceiling tiles, caulks around bathroom
fixtures. 

  

Works with specialized lab support equipment including
hoods, incubators, freezers or other lab equipment as assigned. Moves
equipment, freezers and furniture. 

  

Responds to emergency calls and equipment alarms; evaluates
problem and makes repairs or requests appropriate specialist. 

  

Supply Maintenance: Estimates labor and material costs for
work requests; may order supplies. Performs routine work orders and
preventative maintenance tasks, as assigned. Accurately records daily hours
worked and time spent on individual tasks. 

  

Works daily with the Facilities Computer Maintenance
Management System (CMMS) Software (Micromain); BAS software, and the Footprints
work order system. 

  

The ability to communicate effectively in English, both
verbally and in writing, is an essential function of this position. 

  

May perform related tasks and work of other Facilities
department personnel, as required or assigned. 

  

Interprets blueprints, drawings, layouts or other
specifications to determine installation or repair requirements. 

  

Expected Salary:  

$25.00 per hour.  

  

Required Qualifications:  

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant
experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an
equivalent rate for the required experience. 

  

Preferred:  

Previous experience working in a research, hospital, or
university setting is preferred. 

Previous experience with plumbing, electrical, mechanical,
carpentry, and/or welding experience is preferred. 

Previous trade experience (1 or more) in plumbing,
electrical, pipefitting, HVAC, etc. is preferred. 

Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills and
the ability to evaluate mechanical and electrical systems. 

Must have a valid driver’s license issued from the state
where the position is located. 

Must be available on holidays, weekends, and emergency
responses as the property is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
