Boilermaker Apprenticeship Applications (WV)

Boilermakers are the craftsmen and women who help build and power North America. We're welders and riggers who keep the lights on in your home and produce the fuels that move the nation into the future.


Boilermakers are highly skilled tradespeople who construct, install, maintain, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and other heavy-duty steel structures used in power plants, refineries, factories, and ships. Their work is critical to the safe and efficient operation of industrial systems that rely on high-pressure steam and fluid transfer. 

Key Responsibilities:

-Assemble, install, and repair boilers, tanks, and closed vats using welding, riveting, and other metalworking techniques. 

-Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan layouts and assembly procedures. 

-Cut, shape, and align metal components using torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and power tools. 

-Perform rigorous quality control tests, including pressure tests and inspections, to ensure structural integrity and safety compliance. 

-Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in challenging environments while adhering strictly to safety regulations. 

Typical Work Environments:

-Power generation facilities 

-Refineries and chemical plants 

-Shipyards 

-Manufacturing plants

The ONLY requirements for applying to the Boilermakers National Apprenticeship Program are that you be at least 18 years of age and have a high school education. All applicants must provide documentation in the form of a copy of their high school diploma or GED (or DD214 if the applicant is a veteran).

Applications are available online for all Boilermaker Local Lodges in the Southeastern Apprenticeship Area and are accepted year-round.

An applicant must select the Local Lodge they are applying to on their application. For West Virginia, select Local 667.

Before completing the application, applicants are required to read the Apprenticeship Standards and understand the basic qualifications and documents needed to complete the application.

All applications must be submitted with proof of education to be processed.

Incomplete applications received will be disqualified.

Applications remain active for two years. If an applicant has not been selected for indenture into the program within the two years, they must re-apply.

Veterans with an honorable discharge who have completed the Helmets to Hardhats registration process are added directly to the top of the Local Lodge’s applicant roster. When your selected Local Lodge requests apprentices, you, as a veteran registered with Helmets to Hardhats, who has expressed an interest in becoming a Boilermaker Apprentice, will gain direct entry into the program.Your Honorable Discharge Must Be Verified By Helmets to Hardhats - contact Chanelle Simms- csimms@helmetstohardhats.org
